The Demon Slayer anime series is based on the manga by Koyoharu Gotouge, which ran in Weekly Shonen Jump (Shueisha) from 2016 to 2020.
Set in the Taisho era, it follows the story of Tanjiro Kamado, a young boy whose sister was turned into a demon, as he throws himself into the battle against demons led by Muzan Kibutsuji.
The first season of the TV series, Tanjiro Kamado: Unwavering Resolve, aired in 2019, and by 2024, the following seasons had been produced: Mugen Train Arc, Entertainment District Arc, Swordsmith Village Arc, and Pillar Training Arc.
The latest film, "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie: Mugen Castle Arc," is a three-part animated film about the final battle that takes place in the demons' base, "Infinity Castle."
The currently released "Chapter 1: Akaza Returns" has attracted 22,007,405 viewers and grossed 31,425,916,900 yen in the 52 days since its release.
It has surpassed the record of its predecessor, "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie: Mugen Train," and is the fastest film to gross over 30 billion yen in the history of Japanese releases.
