The movie "Hypnosis Mic: Division Rap Battle the Movie" has surpassed 2 billion yen in box office revenue, and a special video is now available for a limited time.
To commemorate the box office revenue of "Hypnosis Mic: Division Rap Battle the Movie" surpassing 2 billion yen, a special video titled "Claim Victory (Immersive Edition)" is now available on the official "Hypnosis Mic" YouTube channel for a limited time until September 7th.
Launched in 2017, "Hypnosis Mic -Division Rap Battle-" is a music-based character rap project set in a world where territorial disputes are waged through rap battles using "Hypnosis Mic," which can interfere with people's minds. The project depicts six teams - "Ikebukuro Division," "Yokohama Division," "Shibuya Division," "Shinjuku Division," "Osaka Division," and "Nagoya Division" - competing fiercely.
The film "Hypnosis Mic -Division Rap Battle-", which depicts the fierce battle of the Final Division Rap Battle, will be released nationwide on February 21st this year.
The film features a gimmick that is a first for Japan: the outcome of the rap battle during the screening will be decided by the audience in real time voting on a smartphone app.The audience will be able to vote a total of five times during the screening, resulting in a total of 48 different screening patterns and seven branching endings.
Due to equipment limitations, the film was released in only 60 to 80 theaters.
While many hit films have been released in around 10 theaters and then expanded to 150 or more, this is the first film in Japan to break the 2 billion yen mark in box office revenue from fewer than 100 theaters since the national rankings began in 2004 (according to Kogyo Tsushinsha).
It is also the first title for Polygon Pictures, the animation production company, to break the 2 billion yen mark.
The special video "Claim Victory (Immersive Edition)" depicts six teams formed by male characters - "Buster Bros!!!", "MAD TRIGGER CREW", "Matenro", "Fling Posse", "Dotsuitare Honpo", and "Bad Ass Temple" - clashing with "Chuo-ku", a team of female characters.
The video was produced as one of the main exhibits of the "Hypnosis Mic -Division Rap Battle-" Movie Exhibition, which was held at Ikebukuro PARCO in Tokyo from June to July.
