It has been announced that a 30th anniversary screening of "Toy Story" will be held for one week only, from September 12th to 18th.
In addition, a special visual for the 30th anniversary screening has been unveiled.
It has been 30 years since the birth of Disney and Pixar's masterpiece "Toy Story," a series that dramatically depicts the irreplaceable bond between people and toys in a world of toys and has moved audiences around the world.
To commemorate the 30th anniversary of Toy Story, whose imaginative world continues to grow in appeal, there is now a rare opportunity to see the original "Toy Story," which was released in the US in 1995, in theaters.
"Toy Story" was the world's first full-length, fully CG digitally animated film.
At a time when hand-drawn animation was in its heyday, it was created entirely using CG animation, and its expressive power not only astonished audiences around the world, but also dramatically expanded the possibilities of animation.
The original concept and animator was Pete Docter (currently Chief Creative Officer of Pixar Animation Studios).
The original concept and screenplay was written by Andrew Stanton, who would later go on to produce Academy Award-winning films such as "Finding Nemo" and "Wall-E."
The fifth film in the series, "Toy Story 5," is scheduled to be released in Japan in the summer of 2026. Docter said, "Thirty years ago, 'Toy Story' first put Pixar on the map, and we're thrilled to be returning to that world. What will Woody and the others do in 'Toy Story 5'? I think you'll be amazed. The film will be directed and written by Andrew Stanton. Andrew and I joined Pixar around the same time and made 'Toy Story' together. We're still friends today. He's a genius who has written the scripts for all of the Toy Story films!"
Stanton, who serves as director and screenwriter, revealed his confidence in the film and an outline of the series, saying, "Toy Story has a special meaning to me. Throughout the series, I have said that toys are for children. However, in Toy Story 5, the toys face a very difficult situation. Kids today are obsessed with electronic devices (tablets). Toys can't compete. In this day and age when technology is everywhere, toys have strong rivals such as cell phones and tablets."
Furthermore, Tim Allen, who plays Buzz Lightyear, explained in an overseas interview that the story of Buzz and Woody ended in the previous film, "Toy Story 4," with a touching ending in which they "choose different paths."
"After saying goodbye to Woody in 'To infinity and Beyond,' did we really need a sequel? I was initially reluctant to do so myself. But there's a good reason for him to return in 'Toy Story 5.'" He continued, "What they (Pixar) are doing is truly amazing. It's very well done, and the story is developing in a really cool way," he said, exuding confidence.
At the 30th anniversary screening of "Toy Story," a set of four postcards featuring special visuals and concept art from "Toy Story 5" will be distributed as a gift to attendees.
They will only be available at screening theaters (excluding some theaters).
Distribution will end once stock runs out.
